Entry for Sheafe in Who's Who in Colored America, 6th ed., 1941-1944:
It is striking that the entry omits any reference to Sheafe's second wife, Lucy Parker Whetsel, or their daughter, Doris Elizabeth (b. 1913).
Chronological references are somewhat imprecise: The round number of "25 years" is given for "Seventh [day] Adventist Ch., Battle Creek, Mich., and Mission Work." He was employed by the Seventh-day Adventist denomination for 13 years (1896-1907, 1913-1915). If the six years of the People's S.D.A. Church's first period as an independent congregation are included, the total would be 19 years. If the second period in that status were included (not offically ending until 1926), the total could be stretched well beyond twenty-five years! Also, the dates given for Sheafe's Baptist pastorates are off by two to three years
Finally, the nature of Sheafe's education at Howard University is a subject for further research. Did he receive a diploma or certificate in 1911, or simply take courses? Thus far no other references have been discovered.
